While being an outstanding artist, Caravaggio was branded sacrilegious by the Council of Trent. Upon finding out that Caravaggio has used prostitutes, thieves, and vagrants as models for church paintings, the pope requests the Shadow, a secret agent of the Vatican, to investigate the painter.
