The story of a holy neighbor by the virtuoso Roberto Rossellini
Francesco lives like a child, following God’s teachings. While the public laughs at him, the Pope allowed him to preach God’s words. Thus, Francesco and his “Little Brothers” go on a journey to spread the message of peace. The saintly Francesco, the simple and kind Giovanni, the innocent Ginepro – the Little Brothers’ attitude towards life is relaxed even in suffering and hesitation; a refreshing breath of air for us viewers in the 21st century. Francesco himself and the monks that live with him are all played by actual Franciscan monks. Depicting life back then with meticulous attention, the film is also recognized as a Neorialismo film situated in the Middle Ages.
