HITORICA FOCUS
From the closing days of the Shogunate to a modern jidaigeki studio, a samurai travels through time to become a kirareyaku actor.
One night in late Shogun-era Kyoto, Takasaka Shinzaemon, a samurai of the Aizu domain, attempts to assassinate another samurai from Choshu. However, the moment Shinzaemon crosses swords with his target, a thunderbolt hits him unconscious. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a modern-day period drama studio. After causing a series of commotion, he is shocked to find out that the Shogunate fell 140 years ago. After briefly resigning himself to death, Shinzaemon knocks on the door of the studio again. With only his swordsmanship to rely on, he now has a single path to take: to become the best kirareyaku actor specializing in losing swordfights.

Junichi Yasuda [Film Director]
Junichi Yasuda was born in 1967 in Kyoto. A graduate of Osaka University of Economics, he worked various jobs before going into video production. He has produced, directed and designed videos of kindergarten performances, weddings, businesses and events, while also working multi-camera recording and live streaming of events as well as production and distribution of low-budget films. In 2014, he established Mirai Eigasha. In 2023, he inherited his family rice farm after the passing of his father. With rice prices at a record low, his household finances have no room for optimism. If A Samurai in Time flops, Yasuda will not be able to continue as a rice farmer – this is truly a critical moment.
