When night engulfs the city of Edo, someone rustles in the attic. It’s the chivalrous robber who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, known as Nezumikozo Jirokichi. Living in the city is Osuzu, a widow barely surviving with her young child. Here comes Bonji Angoro and Chogoro who are willing to use Osuzu to reveal Nezumikozo’s identity. And Kan’emon, the private detective famous for his experience and instinct, the man who condemns sins but not the sinners...

Rintaro [Film Director]
Rintaro was born in 1941. After working in Toei Doga (now Toei Animation), he moved to Mushi Production where he made his directorial debut with Japan’s first anime series Astro Boy (1963). He worked on a number of TV anime series including Jungle Emperor Leo (1965) on which he worked as the chief director. His first feature anime film Galaxy Express 999 (1979) was a box-office success, and Kadokawa’s first anime film Genma Wars (1983), which featured manga artist Katsuhiro Otomo as the character designer, also attracted great attention. After these hits, he mainly worked with MADHOUSE Inc. and released films such as The Dagger of Kamui (1985), Phoenix: Karma Chapter (1986), X (1996), and Metropolis (2001). His latest work is Manga Cinema dedicated to Sadao Yamanaka “NEZUMIKOZO JIROKICHI”. In 2023, he was invited to the Lumière Film Festival – a first for an anime director – and joined the rank of world cineastes.
