A film adaptation of the popular Estonian mystery novel. The murder mystery that shocked the city of Tallinn is unraveled!

In medieval Tallinn, a famous knight who saved the Baltic Sea from pirates was murdered. His severed head was found with a coin in his mouth, and the gold chain he bought was nowhere to be seen. Melchior the apothecary is tasked with solving this mystery. He soon realizes that the clues point to the monastery. In the face of great danger, Melchior still dares to confront the dark side of society.

Elmo Nüganen [Film Director]

Born in Estonia, Nüganen served as the artistic director of the Tallinn City Theatre from 1992 to 2021. His first film as a director and screenwriter, Names in Marble (2002), was seen by nearly 170,000 people and remained the most watched Estonian film until 2016. Another work of his, 1944 (2015), was chosen as Estonia’s submission for the 88th Academy Awards. As an actor, he appeared in Tangerines (2013) which was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards.
