HISTORICA WORLD
Jagna fights to cultivate her path from a closed village in Poland
A late-19th century village in Poland is a hotbed of gossips and strife. Due to outdated practices such as insistence on traditions and deep-rooted patriarchy, beautiful Jagna is forced to marry a wealthy landlord who is much older than her. The Peasants is an adaptation of a novel of the same name by Władysław Reymont, a Nobel Prize-winner representing 20th century Poland. The film breathes life into the four parts of the novel – each corresponding to a season – with colorful rotoscope animation and oil painting techniques.
