HITORICA FOCUS
Aochi Toyojirō, a professor teaching the German language, travels a seaside town with his friend Nakasago Tadasu. They are entertained by a geisha named Koine at the inn they stay at. They then part ways; Nakasago continues his journey and Aochi goes back to his home in the Shōnan area. Years later, Aochi receives news that Nakasago got married. Aochi visits the newlyweds and is surprised when he sees the wife, Sono: she was the spitting image of Koine, the geisha they met when they traveled together. That night, Nakasago makes Aochi listen to a 1904 recording of Zigeunerweisen played by the composer Pablo de Sarasate himself.
