HITORICA FOCUS
Burn your life – Takashi Miike reimagines the mass vendetta period masterpiece by Eiichi Kudo.
In 1844, Mamiya, the chief retainer in Edo of the Akashi domain, publicly commits seppuku in front of the Minister Doi’s residence. His suicide was a protest against his crazed and tyrannic feudal lord Matsudaira Naritsugu who also happens to be the younger brother of the Shogun, Ieyoshi. As the seppuku shocks the Shogunate, Doi decides to assassinate Naritsugu and appoints inspector Shimada Shinzaemon to the mission. Entrusted with the huge task, Shinzaemon gathers twelve skilled assassins and proceeds with the plan in great secrecy. Meanwhile, Onigashira Hanbei, a confidant of Naritsugu’s, obtains information about the assassination plan.
